Kirsty, Chris and Astrid’s Trip to Bulgaria
In September 2024 my husband, daughter and I had a lovely week away in Sozopol, Bulgaria. We stayed at the Hotel Martinez and stayed as all-inclusive guests. This was our first all-inclusive beach holiday as a family.
The hotel had just re-opened after an extensive refurbishment, so it looked practically brand new - all shiney and spotlessly clean! Most of the staff had very limited English, but they were all very friendly and always made a fuss of our little girl.
There is a large outdoor pool, a laps pool and an indoor pool, but we did spend a lot of time round the kid's pool and because it was the last week of the season, Astrid had it to herself most of the time. The splash pool has a climbing frame with slides and water fountains.
We walked down to the beach a few times as it was right across the road at the back of the hotel. There is a gate at the back of the rose garden out on to the road. The beach was incredibly clean and quiet.
We had a lovely day walking round the town and went to explore the Old Town. There was a market on this day with lots of little handmade items for sale. The roads and buildings are incredible. We had a lovely lunch at the marina and a nice cold beer in the old town in a bar where we sat and people watched. I would not recommend wearing anything other than trainers on the cobbled streets though!
The food in Bulgaria is really delicious. The Hotel food was always really tasty and even had plenty of options, even for picky eaters.
We took a trip to Castle of Ravadinovo. This was a very interesting place. It was built in 1996 by Georgi Kostadinov Tumpalov. It is often used for film and tv, weddings and tours. We couldn't have a look around on the day we went as a film crew and full cast were at work.
There is a small equestrian centre where you can pay to ride the horse. There was also a zoo corner with poultry, rabbits. There is a wee chapel, winery and a throne room. We had an ice cream and a cold drink in the Magical Gazebo. We had a lovely walk around the grounds and made a few wishes at the wishing well fountain.
We also took a day trip up to Bourgas, The taxi cost about £40 one way. We had a walk around the shopping centre, did a bit of shopping and ate some lunch. The shopping is pretty similar to the UK with many similar shops. We managed to buy some really nice gifts to bring home.
